This module can be used to manage data center equipment that can be assigned to the server. You can add a new device, edit an existing one and delete devices that you do not need anymore. You can also view and manage their ports.

View a list of equipment

  • Type - type of the device: IPMI, switch or PDU (power distribution unit).
  • Device - the name of the device that is used to identify it in the system.
  • Status - current device status:
P-onn.png - the port is active
P-off.png - the port is disabled
P-onoff.png - unknown status
P-ineton.png - enabled
P-inetoff.png - disabled
P-inetonoff.png - status unknown
P-attr.png - used for special purposes.

Add new device

To register a new device, click the "Create" icon and fill out the form.

The form will vary depending on the type selected:

IPMI

Step 1

  • Device type - IPMI.
  • IPMI version - select a version of IPMI.

Step 2

Module «Servers»
  • IP-address - enter a device IP-address.
  • User - provide a username to access this device.
  • Password - enter a password to access this device.

Switch

Step 1

  • Device type - switch.
  • Switch - select a switch that you are going to use.

Step 2

  • Port - provide a port number.
  • Private - with this check box selected, the device won't be used for such operations as server restart, traffic collection, etc.

PDU

Step 1

  • Device type - PDU.
  • PDU - select a power distribution unit you are going to use.

Step 2

  • Port - provide a port number.
  • Private - with this check box selected, the device won't be used for such operations as server restart, traffic collection, etc.

Edit device parameters

To edit a device, locate the one you wish to edit, click the "Edit" icon and modify the settings you want to change.

In the PDU and Switch edit forms you can change the current port and clear the Private check box.

In the IPMI edit form you can change all the data except for the "Device type".

Delete device

To delete a device, select it from the list and click the "Delete" icon. Confirm that you want to delete the selected device by clicking OK on the following form.

Edit port

To edit properties of a switch port, select it and click the "Ports" icon:

  • Identifier - device port identifier (the information is read-only).
  • Description - description of the device port (the information is read-only).
  • Port speed - select port speed.
  • Mode - select a mode for the port.
  • VLAN - virtual network (VLAN). not available in DCImanager Essential.
  • UpLink - select the check box, if this switch port is assigned a switch/router of a higher level, rather than to the server.
  • Reserved port - select the check box if this port is reserved for special needs. It will be hidden on the list of ports when adding a new device, and won't be used for server search.
  • Notes - provide additional information related to the port.

IPMI users

You can add, edit, and delete the users who can access the IPMI. Please note: the information about users is kept on the device. If you cannot connect to it, you won't be able to add or edit users, and an attempt to open the module will fail.
