Server management

This module can be used for your servers management. You can use a wide range of features, for example, you may add a new server or edit parameters of an existing one, block or unblock access to servers, reinstall operating system installed on a server, manage its IP-addresses, and much more.

Servers' owners can only reboot their servers, manage their IP addresses and run operations.

View a list of servers

  • Name - the name of the server.
  • Rack - rack where this server is located. Not available in DCImanager Essential.
  • Server type - server type based on which this server was created.
  • Host name - the domain name of the server.
  • Owner - DCImanager user who is the owner of this server.
  • MAC-address - MAC-address of the network interface.
  • Status - current server status:
    • P-lock.png - this server is blocked. Users cannot run operations on the server.
    • P-onn.png - this server is off. The power port is also specified.
    • P-off.png - this server is on.
    • P-onoff.png - current server status cannot be identified.
    • P-ineton.png - server network connection is on.
    • P-inetoff.png - server network connection is off.
    • P-inetonoff.png - connection status is unknown.
    • P-repair.gif - server recover using the recovery template in progress.
    • P-install.gif - os installation in progress.
    • P-procin.gif - server diagnostics in progress.
    • P-ipmi.png - switch to the IPMI interface.
  • IP address - IP address of the server.
  • Power consumption - power consumption by this server. Not available in DCImanager Essential.
  • Channel load (bit/sec) - amount of traffic (both incoming and outgoing) from all switches connected to this server (per second). Statistics for the last 5 minutes is displayed.
  • OS - the operating system installed on this server.
  • Notes - additional information related to the server.

Add new server

To add a new server, click the "New" icon and fill out the form:

The "Server" tab

  • Name - provide the name for the server you are going to add.
  • Rack - select a rack where your server will be located. Not available in DCImanager Essential.
  • Owner - select a user who will be the owner of the server.
  • Server type - select a server type.
  • Notes - provide additional information about the server.

The "System" tab

  • IP address type - select a type of the IP address:
    • Public - this IP address is accessible from the Internet.
    • Private - this IP address is not accessible from the Internet.
  • Type - select one of the following variants: an IPv4 address will be assigned automatically, you can type a certain address into the "Certain IP address" form or select an existing address from the list.
  • Host name - enter a domain named of the server.
  • MAC-address - enter a MAC-address.

Edit server

To edit a server, locate the one you wish to edit, click the "Edit" icon and modify the settings you want to change.

Note: you cannot change the server's IP address via the edit form. Go to the Server IP address module to change the IP.

The "Hardware" tab:

  • CPU - provide the type of CPU installed on the server.
  • CPU number - number of CPUs installed on the server.
  • Number of cores - the total number of cores installed on the server.
  • CPU performance - CPU performance benchmark.
  • RAM - the amount of RAM installed on the server.
  • RAM performance - RAM performance in operations per second.
  • Hard drives - information about hard drives installed on the server.
  • Hardware RAID - select the check box if the hardware RAID is installed on the server.
  • Network adapters - information about network adapters.

Delete server

To delete a server, select it from the list and click the "Delete" icon. Confirm that you want to delete the selected server by clicking OK on the following form.

Enable server

This feature is only available for DCImanager users.

To enable a server, select it and click the "On" icon. Confirm that you want to enable the selected server by clicking OK on the following form.

Reboot server

To reboot a server, select the one and click the "Reboot" icon. Confirm that you want to reboot the selected server by clicking OK on the following form.

Disable server

This feature is only available for DCImanager users.

To disable a server, select it and click the "Off" icon. Confirm that you want to disable the selected server by clicking OK on the following form.

Block server

To block a server, select it on the list and click the "Block" icon. Confirm that you want to block the selected server by clicking OK on the following form.

Note: blocking the server will disable all switches assigned, and users won't be able to run operation on the server. However the server won't be powered off.

Unblock server

To unblock a server, select it on the list and click the "Unblock" icon. Confirm that you want to unblock the selected server by clicking OK on the following form.

Note: unblocking the server will enable all devices assigned to that server, and users will be able to run operations on it.

Operations

You can select an operation to start on a server. Select the server from the list, click the "Operations" icon and fill out the form:

  • Operation type - select an operation:
    • Install OS
    • Run diagnostics
    • Upload recovery template
  • Password - enter a password.
  • Confirm password - retype the password to ensure it is correct.

Switch to User panel

Sometimes You may need to access the control panel with privileges of your user. Select the server and click the "Enter" icon. Once completed, You may view and use the control panel as the selected user. To return to your level, follow the link next to the welcome line.
